James Morrison (b.1702)was probably born in Ireland. Records show that he came to NC and settled further up Third Creek than his brother William. (near what is now the Alexander County line) James and Mary had nine children that have been documented. James was a prosperous farmer, amassing (as his 1779 will testifies) hundreds of acres of land, a "Mansion house", a "lot of books in the public library", various farming instruments, spinning wheels, looms, pewter, cash money, slaves, cattle, horses, sheep, hogs and a gun."
